Applying through Clearing is straightforward and takes just three steps:

• Step 1 - decide which course you would like to study
• Step 2 - get your final results
• Step 3 - call us and enquire about your chosen course and we will help you apply

When you contact us, all you need to provide are:

• your results
• your UCAS ID number (if you have one)
• the name of the course you're interested in

Applying through Clearing doesn't take long. In many cases, we can give you a definitive answer over the phone about studying a course at UWL.

However, the process can take a little longer if you apply for certain courses. For example:

• some music and performing arts courses will require you to audition or submit a portfolio of work
• some photography and design courses will require you to submit a portfolio of work
• Nursing, Midwifery and Operating Department Practice courses will require you to attend a selection day
• if you have non-standard qualifications or if you're applying for direct entry into level 5 or 6, your application may require academic review and will take longer to reach a decision

The process may also take slightly longer when our course tutors need to carry out an extra review of your application. This might happen if:

• you don’t have standard qualifications such as A Levels or a BTEC Diploma
• you have already completed some undergraduate-level study elsewhere and you are applying to join the second or third year of a course

Yes, you can. If you’re not in the UCAS system and you’ve been made an offer by us over the phone, you can fill in an online application form. We will send you the form via email; you will also have to send in your qualifications electronically.

Yes, you can. If you've already accepted an offer through UCAS at another institution you can use the Self Release tool on your UCAS Track account to apply through Clearing to another institution.

We recommend that you do this only after you have been made an offer on your chosen course with us.

If you have been offered a place at UWL but have got slightly lower grades than you needed, we may be able to reconsider your application or offer you a place on a similar course.

Yes, you can. While we can only consider existing marks when making you an offer, you may already have the points needed for the course you wish to study.

Remember to give us details of any outstanding grades or extenuating circumstances if you feel they could help your application.

Yes, we welcome applications from mature students (over 21) and students with non-traditional academic backgrounds.

If you’ve already applied for a student loan but decided to change your course or university through Clearing or Adjustment, you need to let Student Finance know as soon as possible.

If you haven’t yet applied for a student loan and you need funding, you should apply online as soon as possible once your Clearing place has been confirmed.

UCAS applicants

Log into the UCAS Hub and add UWL as your Clearing choice using the institutional code W05. You should also include the course code, which you can find on the course page.

Non-UCAS applicants

Please follow the instructions in your offer email.

If you have received a Clearing offer, we don’t have a fixed deadline for you to accept it. However, as demand for places is high, we recommend accepting as soon as you can. This will allow you to secure your place and apply for accommodation.

This is because we haven't been able to offer you a place on the course you originally applied for. This may be because the course you applied for is full or you were not eligible.

However, the good news is that we have been able to offer you an alternative course.

Use our course finder to find out more about the alternative course you have been offered.

We may have offered you a degree with an integrated Foundation Year if you didn’t meet the entry requirements for the degree course.

During your Foundation Year you will study modules which are relevant to your chosen degree. You will also benefit from academic skills modules that enable you to succeed at undergraduate level.

This is a great way to improve your confidence before starting your first year of undergraduate study in your subject department.

Upon successful completion of your Foundation Year you are guaranteed progression onto the first year of the degree course.

This depends upon your course.
