What entry requirements do I need for a taught postgraduate course?
Please see individual course pages for entry requirements. In general, for taught masters courses you should have an Honours degree (2:1 or above) in a related subject from a UK university or equivalent.
We may also offer you a place based on substantial previous experience or training, normally from within the work environment.
All applications are considered individually so call us on 0800 036 8888 to discuss whether your qualifications and experience would be suitable preparation for the course.

When should I apply for a taught postgraduate course?
You can apply directly to us at any time throughout the year. Most taught postgraduate courses start in September.
Places are offered on a continuous basis and courses may fill up quickly.

How can I apply for a taught postgraduate course?
If you are applying for a taught postgraduate course, use our course search to find your chosen course, and then click on 'apply now' at the bottom of the course page. This will take you through our online application system.
Once you’ve submitted your application, we will review your qualifications, personal statement and referee's report to see whether you would be suitable for the course and whether we can offer you a place. In some cases, we may contact you for further information - please reply as soon as possible to avoid your application being withdrawn.
If you have applied for an Art and Design or Performance course you may also be invited to come to the University for an interview or audition. Places are offered on a continuous basis and courses may fill up quickly.
We will get back to you as quickly as possible with a decision on whether we can make you an offer. This will be communicated by email. You will be asked to reply to an offer within three weeks of receipt. If you would like to speak to the team about your application please call 0800 036 888.

What entry requirements do I need for a postgraduate research course?
We welcome applicants with a variety of qualifications and work experience from across the world. Applicants registering for PhD or the professional doctorate, will normally need the following:
- a good first degree (first or second upper class) or equivalent in a relevant field, and
- a Masters degree (MA, MSc, MBA or MRes) with Merit or above, or have equivalent postgraduate or research experience.
International applicants must also ensure they have a strong understanding of written and spoken English:
- an IELTS score (International English Language Testing System) of 6.5 is the minimum standard required (applicants with a previous degree obtained in the UK are exempt from this requirement)

You can apply at any time of the year and courses can begin in January, May or September.

Do I need to provide references?
On your application, you will be asked to provide one or two references. If you already have a written reference(s) and want to upload it on behalf of your referee(s), make sure the reference is a scanned copy of the original and that it is on official headed paper.
If you input your referee contact details, your referees will receive a reference request email from us as soon as you submit your application. When a referee provides the reference by clicking on the link in the reference request email, it will be automatically uploaded to your application.
A referee can also provide a reference by emailing it to us directly at postgraduate.admissions@uwl.ac.uk. It should be sent from their official email address and contain their full name and job title.
The reference should include a summary of how the referee knows you and confirm your suitability for studying the course you have applied for. This might include;
- details of relevant work experience
- motivation for studying the course
- intellectual capacity to succeed on the course.

How to apply as an International student

How can I apply as an international student?
It is very simple to apply for a taught postgraduate course with us as an international student; simply find a course that suits you, then on the course page follow the steps to apply using the ‘Apply Now’ button.
If you are applying for a research-based postgraduate course, please visit the research section for information on how to apply.
As part of your application you will need to provide:- academic transcripts (officially translated to English)
- a personal statement explaining why you are suitable for the course
- two professional and/or academic references
- a copy of your passport
- copies of any other supporting documents
If you are still studying please send the most up-to-date transcript you have. You may receive a 'conditional offer' until your studies are complete - this may then be upgraded to 'unconditional' when you complete your studies, if you meet the entry requirements.

What are the entry requirements for international students?
To study a postgraduate course with us, you must meet the conditions below, as well as the specific entry requirements for your chosen course.
Visit your country page to find out the level of study and grades we accept from your country.
You must have, as a minimum, one of the following:
- an honours degree from any university in the UK or Republic of Ireland OR
- an honours degree from an approved institution of higher education outside the UK and the Republic of Ireland, please visit the Your Country information pages OR
- a recognised equivalent professional qualification
Please note work experience may be required for some postgraduate courses. You will also need to meet our English language requirement - please see below.

If English is not your first language, or if your previous education was not conducted fully in English, you will need to show evidence of your English language ability to study a course with us.
