About the event

This event will take place at Lawrence Hall. Booking is essential.

UWL and LCM PHD Student Rotem Haguel showcases the culmination of his practice-based research with an evocative performance. Its title, “All These Moments” is inspired by Yasmin Vardi’s accompanying visual work.

Haguel (AKA JL Segel) is an electronic music artist who merges minimalism and dance-inspired motifs with experimental textures. As a UWL PhD researcher, he studies listening and electronic music-making through a contemplative lens, drawing on his extensive meditation practice.

Over the course of his research, Haguel reflects on the experience of listening as he builds a conceptual framework for composing and performing with modular synthesisers. His final performance invites deep listening and explores mechanisms of memory and anticipation through gradual sonic transformation and pattern manipulation.

Vardi is a multidisciplinary artist who works across video, installation photography and text, delving into themes of power structures, crisis and trauma. Her work investigates the intricate connections between value, technology, abstraction, our physicality and our lifestyles. Her visual work enhances Haguel’s performance, exploring temporality through a frame-by-frame approach.

  • Photography and videography are not permitted during live performances
  • Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult
