Careers – your questions answered

There’s a reason UWL is known as ‘The Career University’ and we are committed to setting our students up for a successful career. There are things you might not know or have never had a chance to ask, so we took to Instagram to find out what you wanted to know.

Kay Stewart, Head of Careers and Volunteering at UWL, spent the day answering your questions - here were her answers to the top ones...

Does the Careers Team support you after your studies?

“Yes, we support you! There’s a lifetime guarantee here so you can come back at any time for support with your career as it develops.”

Can you book one-to-one sessions?

“There are plenty of times to speak to a career's consultant one on one, absolutely. You can go online on the Student Hub and look for an appointment to suit you. We offer Saturdays and during the day.”

Do you help with placements?

“We offer placement help, whether you want something in the summer, whether you want a yearlong one or whether you want projects that work with your course. So do come along and speak to your placement officer. Use the Student Hub to make an appointment.”

How can my CV be outstanding?

“Make sure it is targeted to the right job that you’re applying for and make sure that you have all the evidence in there to support the things that you are claiming. Do talk to the Careers Team, we’d be happy to advise you on making a killer CV.”

Where can I look for jobs?

“We have lots of jobs on the Student Hub, ranging from graduate opportunities to part-time work, so it's a good place to start. If you’re looking for something specific come and speak to your specialist career’s consultant, they can tell you particular websites to check.”
