Introduction
Information on IT support, email, using PCs, binding and laminating, and photocopying, printing and scanning.This page also contains detail of our new book scanning service which is designed to allow you to access parts of books or chapters safely.
IT support
The student IT Service Desk provides technical support for all students using our IT facilities and services. Ask them for help with problems such as login difficulties, network access, and printing problems.
If you are not sure which login and password you need to use for which services, please check the information on the Library e-resources page.
Using PCs
There is open access (drop-in) computing facilities available in the Paul Hamlyn Library and at Fountain House in Reading. For help in using these please contact IT staff directly or via the IT Service Desk.
We are connected to the Joint Academic Network (JANET) which provides fast, reliable access to the Internet from computers across the University network. For certain electronic resources accessed over the Internet, passwords will be required. These can be obtained from the enquiry helpdesk at the Library.

Copyright and other legislation
The majority of computer software and documentation is subject to copyright regulations. Any attempt to infringe copyright, through illegally copying, using or altering material in any way, may result in disciplinary action, expulsion or prosecution. The installation and use of unlicensed software is also strictly forbidden. As a student you agree to abide by the University’s code of conduct for IT use before accessing any IT resources. The Accepted Use Policy on using University of West London network resources can be found on the University’s website and in the libraries.
Binding and laminating
Binding services are delivered by UWL Print who can cater for all UWL staff and student printing needs, including dissertations, posters, binding, large scale print, signage and more.
If you require printing or binding services, send an email with the required pdf file attached and instructions. Turn-around is likely to be at least 48 hours.

Photocopying, printing and scanning
MFDs (Multi-Functional Devices) that allow you to print, photocopy or scan are available in the Paul Hamlyn Library, in the Reading Campus Library and in the 2nd floor social learning space at Paragon. These are capable of both black and white and colour printing, in both A4 and A3 sizes.
The University now provides free black and white (mono) printing and photocopying on all student multi-functional devices (MFDs) for academic purposes and within reasonable limits.

If you wish to print or copy in colour, please speak to a member of staff.

How do I print from my own device?
To print from your own device, you will need to be connected to the campus (eduroam) wi-fi.
If printing from a computer, please use the IT web-to-print service.
If printing from a smartphone, please use the IT mobile-to-print service (compatible with Android and iOS).

How do I print from library computers
To print from library PCs or Macs, please select 'UWL_SecurePrint'.
