CLBS Enterprise Expo celebrates innovation and knowledge exchange

The Claude Littner Business School at the University of West London recently hosted an Enterprise Expo, organised by Senior Lecturer in Marketing Waqar Abbasi. An expansion of last year’s inaugural event, it featured twenty-four innovative and promising startups and almost four hundred students attended.

The Expo is a platform for recognition and promotion for startups, providing students with opportunities to work on real-life business solutions alongside industry professionals. 

The event featured the CLBS Enterprise of the Year awards, that recognise an overall winner as well as awards for innovation, inclusivity, sustainability, commercial viability and job creation.

Enterprise of the Year was The Wilde Foundation, who work for women’s and girls’ empowerment. CEO Rasheda Malcolm expressed her gratitude, stating: 

The Expo has given us the opportunity to connect with an inspiring range of businesses from across London. We are honoured to receive this award; a recognition that truly underscores our growth and the impact we strive to make. Thank you for this inspiring acknowledgment.” 

Founder of AKA Life Coaching Michelle Alexander, who won the inclusivity award, said: 

I am incredibly honoured to have received this award. This recognition means so much, not just to me but to everyone dedicated to supporting working carers.” 

Winning the commercial viability award, Ken Mawbey of VisiAR shared with enthusiasm: 

It was a fantastic event which was so well organised. We really enjoyed the day and were surprised and delighted to win this award.”

The event is designed to embed real-world business experience and insights into assessments across a number of undergraduate and postgraduate courses at CLBS, motivating students to research beforehand and engage deeply with the startups during the Expo to select business cases to work on collaboratively for their various assessments,” 

explained Waqar. 

Applying their academic knowledge to real-world challenges reinforces student learning while enhancing their skills and helping them engage more meaningfully with featured exhibitors.”

CLBS postgraduate student Thunn Let Cho commented:

The expo underscored how cross-industry collaboration drives creative solutions to complex challenges. It was truly an inspiring day of learning and exchange.” 

The event has brought a range of opportunities that will continue to enhance student experience in the coming months, including potential field trips to production facilities of featured companies, consultancy and research projects, as well as follow-up events.
