Out of 150 applicants, Kerry was one of 20 chosen to take part in the Hollywood in Beijing masterclass at Tsinghua University, one of the most prestigious institutions in China. Led by renowned Hollywood composers Kristopher Carter, Oscar Senen, and Damon Tedesco, it included classes, composition workshops and an orchestral recording session.

Over the two weeks, the participants composed, orchestrated, recorded and mixed a score for a video clip, following Hollywood standards from start to finish. The recording session for strings, woodwind and brass took place in a world-class studio built by the programme at the University.

As well as the technical skills, they also gained a deeper understanding of how the global film markets in China and the US are interconnected.

Kerry commented:

It was an honour to participate in the masterclass and learn from industry professionals about scoring for different genres and working in diverse production environments. It was also a chance to meet some of the most talented composers in China, and I made friendships that will last a lifetime.

My Masters degree at LCM provided a solid foundation in film and TV composition, with practical assignments, recording opportunities and invaluable industry knowledge. It pushed me creatively and has prepared me well for the next steps in my career.”

Dr Simone Spagnolo, Head of Composition at LCM, said:

Our students form an incredible community of wonderful international composers that regularly achieve wonderful international successes. Warm congratulations to Kerry for this magnificent opportunity!”
