Intro
Level 5 BSc (Hons) Human Resource Management students at the Claude Littner Business School (CLBS) recently visited the London Employment Tribunal.
Article body
Employment tribunals are responsible for hearing claims from people who think someone such as an employer or potential employer has treated them unlawfully. Examples of unlawful treatment claims that they may hear include unfair dismissal, discrimination and unfair deductions from pay.
The visit was an opportunity for students to understand and gain practical insights into employment related issues and how to present cases in tribunal as an HR professional. They were able to witness real-life cases to understand the legal complexities of employment related issues, for instance, sexual harassment, whistle blowing, victimisation, discrimination and dispute resolutions.
The practical experience also allowed the students to gain insights into how HR professionals can effectively prepare and present case bundles, emphasising the legal compliance and cumbersome documentation.
Course Leader and lecturer Ramnik Singh explained,
The visit equipped students with practical knowledge that is crucial for their future careers as human resource practitioners.
The student feedback on the visit was very positive, highlighting that it not only enhanced their understanding of the employment tribunal complexities but also equipped them with effective persuasive communication skills.”
