Journalism students explore BBC Broadcasting House

Intro

Second- and third-year Broadcast Journalism and Journalism students at the London School of Film Media and Design (LSFMD) were invited to the headquarters of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), Broadcasting House in London, recently. The visit provided the students with a behind the scenes look into the world of modern journalism and broadcasting in the UK.

One memorable highlight for students was a visit to the Newscast podcast, one of the BBC's daily news podcasts.

The students also met Marianna Spring, the BBC’s social media investigations journalist and a contributor to the BBC Verify department investigating misinformation. Marianna talked about her insights into tackling conspiracies across social media as well as her journey into journalism.

Marianna was so kind and approachable,"

said one of the students.

In addition to this, the students got a peek at the technology and digital tools large media networks use to broadcast their content with a visit to BBC London News Studios.

It was such a fun day, and we met so many people. Seeing what goes on behind the screens has been a highlight of my year,”

said another student.

This trip was an excellent opportunity for students to see that at UWL we mirror the same journalism industry practices as mainstream media as well provide inspiration for their own journey into the world of work,”

explained Senior Lecturer Alison Hawkings.
