The poster for Ordnance by Jonathon Crewe: Drawing of a man and a women, with a mysterious character riding a horse through a desert

Against a backdrop of colonial wars and espionage, a young British cartographer embarks on an affair with the estranged wife of an exiled and arrogant botanist, setting them on a journey of self-reflection. 'Ordnance' is about human-made borders, both personal and physical, and how they can categorise and shape identity.

As a lecturer it’s great to be able to use my creative practice research to inform my teaching, not only in content, but also in the industry connections I can bring to class,”

Dr Crewe said.

Working on a professional production with students helps bridge the gap between academia and industry, providing ‘real-world’ experience and connections that can help students on their way in their creative careers.”

Dr Crewe will take a group of his students to the play and will follow this up with a seminar and panel at UWL with some of the actors and creatives behind the production. The panel will be chaired by Associate Professor in Film and Media Dr Marcus Nicholls and feature Jonathan and the lead actor Rosa French, who is also the co-founder and artistic director of theatre production company STIGMAcollective.

Level 5 Graphic Design student Monika Sowa, who designed the poster for the production, commented:

Designing the poster for 'Ordnance' has provided me with insight into theatre production, the opportunity to collaborate with talented creative professionals, and significantly enhanced my skills and knowledge! It has been an incredibly enriching and inspiring experience!”

Level 6 Music Technology student at UWL’s London College of Music Cosmo Fulham has been working on the sound design for the production. He said:

Doing sound for 'Ordnance' has really opened my eyes not only to a new form of sound regarding sound design but also to the possibilities of the live theatre production format. It is really fulfilling to be a part of a larger production and play my part in bringing this story to stage.”
