Taking inspiration from family to build a future in medical science

Inspired by her grandmother to make waves in healthcare, a University of West London pharmacology student is setting herself up for a career in life-changing global research.

Stefania Chicu is now following her lifelong passion for biology as she learns about the impact of medicines on every aspect of the human body, to set her up for career-making major breakthroughs in care – and all while honoring her grandmother’s memory.

Now in studying at UWL’s new School of Biomedical Science, Stefania has all the support she needs to combine her love of the subject and her desire to improve the quality of life for so many.

I’ve always interested in the human biology and wanted to do something great in a profession where I am helping people and can make a real improvement on their quality of life,

My grandmother worked all her life in a hospital surgery department as a nurse, and since I was a child I have dreamt of becoming a doctor like her - strong, confident and always open to helping everyone.

UWL is already helping me learn so much, and introducing me to so many inspirational people, I am encouraged to see the opportunities out there and motivated to achieve my dreams."

Once she completes her course, Stefania, who came from her home country of Moldova to study with UWL, is keen to work in the field of research where she can use her expertise to contribute to life-changing work on a major scale.
