UWL SBS PhD students have paper published in a high impact Bioengineering journal

Intro

Students from the University of West London’s School of Medicine and Biosciences have had a paper – ‘Bioengineering of Antibody Fragments: Challenges and Opportunities’ published in open access academic Bioengineering journal.

Main body

First year SBS PhD students Sama Pirkalkhoran, Wiktoria Roksana Grabowska, and Hamid Heidari Kashkoli, who are being supervised by Senior Lecturer in Pharmaceutics Hanieh Khalili, worked together with a pharmaceutical company to produce a critical review of the different engineering platforms currently being used to make antibody fragments.  These fragments, which are novel biotherapeutics, are used in treating diseases like cancer or macular degeneration.

We provide a future perspective and recommend the best bioengineering methods for novel, antibody-based medicine. Collaboration is a key success factor and it is encouraging for all our undergraduate and postgraduate students to see what can be achieved by working together.”
