As part of the changes, the size of the gym floor will be increased, reflecting current fitness trends, by giving more space to equipment for weightlifting and powerlifting as well as cardio activities.
All the fitness equipment will be replaced with market-leading Technogym equipment that will work alongside a new My Wellness app.
Among the new equipment are specialist pieces such as the Skillrun treadmill. This allows the user to endure powerful sled pushes, challenge their speed with parachute training bouts, increase their strength against resistance and challenge their cardio and power in a bootcamp.
Another piece of equipment called the Checkup, which uses advanced measurement technology and AI to provide assessment for physical and cognitive conditions. It links with the Technogym Coach to adjust training programmes to maximise results, increasing user satisfaction and engagement over time.
Once the centre reopens, it will offer new fitness classes including spinning, which is low-impact, high-intensity indoor cycling, either as part of a small instructor-led class or a class run by a virtual instructor.
We will be the only gym in Ealing with some of this equipment while remaining the best value for our students,”
said Rob Carr, Head of Commercial Operations at the Students’ Union.
The UWL Sports Centre will be closed from Monday 29 July while the improvement work is being done. The staff can’t wait to reopen on Wednesday 21 August with a new and improved gym.
