Information systems and knowledge management (ISKM)
Summary
The ISKM Research Group is a hub of activities, expertise and knowledge covering broad areas of emerging technologies, digitisation, automation, knowledge management, operations leadership and project management strategies for sustainable development.
The ISKM Research Group takes a multidisciplinary perspective, drawing upon resources from the sciences, technology and big data analytics as well as the social and behavioural sciences. In the business area the ISKM field is seen as a combination of business, organizational and IT knowledge. The ISKM Research Group is critically assessing the transformative potential of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in society and organisations.
About us
The objectives of this research group are to:
- provide a platform for the academics and practitioners to exchange ideas and opportunities
- bridge the industrial gap by providing innovative solutions from academic research
- enable knowledge transfer from academia to industry and vice versa
- promote practice-based research in academia and evidence-based practice in the industry

Research projects
The fundamental aim of the ISKM research group is to help enterprises and individuals to successfully apply digital technologies to expand their value innovation they can gain from the IT applications.
ISKM intends to carry out superior quality and innovative research projects on business processes and technological innovations from a multi-disciplinary perspective. Here are some examples of the research projects carried out covering business strategic portfolio management and technological transformation towards value innovation including:
- Domain applications of project management knowledge
- Soft skills acquisition for the knowledge economy: a research strategy for policy evolution in technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in intermediate and emergent economies
- The use of virtual learning environment for students’ effective engagement in the higher education institutions through knowledge management and blended learning
- Knowledge intensive business services (KIBS) and their role in the knowledge-based economy
- Intelli-Student: a cutting-edge computer-aided learning platform to augment online teaching and learning pedagogies – a UK-Saudi Partnership Project
