The students enjoyed a workshop run by the BA Photography course team at UWL, where they took portraits of each other. They learnt about lighting, studio technique, digital capture and professional printing. At the end of the session, they printed out their pictures and were able to take home physical copies of their work.
The students were also taken on a campus tour where they saw the different industry-standard facilities the University has to offer. Afterwards, they received a talk about what the Photography course entails and the opportunities it provides.
Amanda Harper, Lecturer in Media Production and Content Creation at Global Academy, said,
I think it's also good for them to actually see UWL students’ portfolios - so, if they had to submit one to get onto a course, roughly what standard they are looking for.”
I think it's really important to let students from local schools and colleges see what we've got, what we do and what sort of approach we take so that they understand what’s going on here,”
commented Peter Bennett, Course Leader in BA Photography at UWL.
Myer, a Global Academy student, said,
My favourite part of the workshop has been playing with the light."
Jonathan, another student, had a look at the BA Photography students’ portfolios and said,
It’s very nice work in my opinion.”
Student Hayyee said that he would like to study photography at university:
From a young age, I have loved photography and coming here and looking at the high-tech inspires me to study to be a photographer.”
