I think it's important for women in particular to have a programme like this for support and help. Business is sometimes very male dominated. I want to say thank you to the University of West London for putting something like this on for women,”
said Councillor Johnson, before presenting the programme graduates with their certificates.
The eight-week long programme helps women entrepreneurs transform their business aspirations into a reality. Although open to women from all backgrounds, it particularly welcomes those from excluded groups who may not have access to mainstream business support services.
Graduates get free use of the University's ideation, innovation and incubation centre Westmont Enterprise Hub for three months after completing the programme, as well as access to finance and marketing aftercare workshops.
The programme, launched in 2023 in collaboration with Ealing Council and led by UWL’s Westmont Enterprise Hub, created fifty women entrepreneurs in twelve months.
Hub Development Manager Angela Kanwar commented,
This programme has gone way beyond our expectations. The engagement and impact that it has had on all the participants and even the team running it has been incredible. It has brought together women from diverse backgrounds who have bonded.
It has been a transformative environment that has resulted in some powerful collaborations and highly innovative business startups.”
Also present at the celebration were Regional Vice President of the Westmont Hospitality Group Alyshia Mangali and lead facilitator on the programme Dr Prabhjot Basra.
Programme graduate Lisa Montgomery commented,
There are so many other women out there that could benefit from this. Getting to use the Hub is amazing. We have all agreed that we are going to come here every Wednesday to network and support each other.”
Bryony Williams, also a programme graduate, said:
This course has prompted me to be positive, believe in my work and the course I want to establish, get going, get out there and do it!”
