Graphic Design students took part in masterclasses with Louis Bailey, a UWL alumnus who works for the Mima design agency. Visual Effects students had expert guidance from VFX supervisor Charles Chorein, whose credits include Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Total Recall.

One of the those who took part in the workshops, second year BSc Visual Effects student Arthur Page, said:

It was absolutely fantastic - and to get comments on personal projects which were inspired by the work of the person giving the feedback was an absolute privilege. It felt like an insight into the industry and a peek behind the curtain at where we're all striving to end up.”

Work from both courses will feature in an exhibition at The Ealing Project later this month.

Photography staff also organised enhancement workshops, and students on Fashion Industry courses displayed marketing material they’ve created as part of a live brief for the women’s tailoring brand Alchemy London. Lecturers from the Advertising and PR course also led workshops to help students develop entries for the D&AD New Blood competition.

LSFMD students stood with Nick Sutton

Events open to students across the School included a discussion with Daniel Finkelstein, political columnist for The Times, about what we can expect in British politics in this election year. Students also had a presentation from Nick Sutton, Head of Digital Output at Sky News, on how news organisations and media content producers can make an impact on TikTok, where Sky News now has 5.5 million followers.

Paul Lohneis, Head of the London School of Film, Media and Design, said:

It’s great to have so many opportunities for students across our School to get advice from experts and learn about the very latest developments in their fields. It shows the difference we at UWL can make by giving our students both an excellent education and a head start in their careers.”

LSFMD students will be taking part in more enhancement activities over the next few weeks before Semester 2 teaching gets into full swing in February.
